Downtown Boulder offers many stunning locations for family portraits. When the leaves start to fall and the landscape turns from green to brown, it’s time for a change of location and a change of scenery. I love all of the urban textured walls and alleys to choose from! There are also countless nooks and crannies between the buildings where I can find beautiful natural light to light my families with.

A lot of my time with kids portraits spent capturing the spirit of the kids. I like to hang out and play and goof around just as much as they do! While we usually start out a session going for a more posed group shot, we eventually loosen up and freestyle the shoot. Most of the images that I aim to capture are about capturing their personalities at this point in their lives. I like to call the images “perfectly imperfect!”.

The great thing about capturing family portraits in downtown Boulder is that we can easily capture images at both urban and nature settings all within a couple blocks. Boulder Creek is only a short distance away from the downtown alleys, and offers nature settings year round. As long as you don’t mind trees without leaves on them of course! Personally, I love the next image. The setting is stark, but the joyful little skip and contrast to the brightly colored clothing is just precious!

Now this was a funny little moment! I was taking some individual shots of the youngest, then her older brother came along and tried to steal some of her time in the camera limelight. Well, an imperfectly perfect placement of her foot wound up sending her big brother to the ground! I couldn’t help but laugh at the victory of the underdog! The most important thing to remember when one of a kind opportunities present themselves is keep shooting!
