The holidays are approaching and that means that it is family portrait season. This was my second photography session with the Walker family. We began the day by spending some time getting some creative shots in the back yard, as well as a group family portrait with the dogs included. After that, we changed up the outfits and headed out to a field for some scenic images in a nature setting with the mountains in the background. It’s pretty cool to see how much the young ones mature in just a year; I’m already looking forward to next year when I will be taking their high school senior portraits.

Welcome to Liz and Rich’s e-session blog post! We met at the base of Flagstaff mountain, with the intention of direction driving up the hill to hit some of the Colorado nature spots up the mountain. As things turned out, we were parked right at Chautauqua at the base of the Flatirons, and the sun was shining across the field. So in a moment of spontaneity, we decided to start our shoot right there.

Since every tourist in town shoots “The Standard Flatirons Photo From Chautauqua”, we local photographers often search for something a little more unique. It’s a good exercise to try and find a little different take on the same landscape. Personally, I’m always a sucker for a back lit grass shot!

After shooting in the field for a while, we headed up the hill to the Flagstaff Amphitheater. There is a cool stone shelter that I have been wanting to shoot at for a while.

Regardless of the location, these guys were a blast to hang out with. Some couples make my job really easy, by just being comfortable, relaxed, and in love! And then a healthy dose of goofing around never hurts either! I didn’t even suggest this shot!

Our last stop a little farther up the road to a lookout over the Continental Divide and the Indian Peaks Wilderness where we were treated to a great sunset.

There were actually a lot of college kids hanging out watching the sunset with us. We had a good time joking around with a certain couple after the sun had set. By this point, we were having a fun time just hanging out and playing with photography; it wasn’t really a portrait shoot any more. And when it’s time to goof around, I always pull out my trusty tilt shift!

I’m really looking forward to their wedding, which is going to be a grand event in their home in the mountains. Fortunately, I won’t have to wait for very long, since the wedding is Saturday! See everyone then!
