Melissa and Nick are friends of mine from the Thursday Night Cruiser Ride in Boulder. So when we first started talking about shooting their wedding, I knew for sure that this was going to be a party not to be missed! We had a great winter engagement session back in January, where we hiked into the Flatirons from their house. For the wedding we strayed a little farther from home; up to Lyons and the Stone Mountain Lodge.

We finally enjoyed a day without any rain. The flipside was that we haven’t had too many hot sunny days so far this year, so everyone was melting in the bright sun. Fortunately there were some shade trees to take cover behind, and to shoot photos out between in stealth ninja photographer mode.

The lodge sits deep in the valley near the North St. Vrain Creek. High above the lodge are colorful orange cliffs that remind me of the desert of southern Utah. With just the right angle and lighting, we can pretend that we are there!

Once at the reception, the real fun was about to begin. Mel and Nick are all about having fun and getting crazy, so you just knew that someone was going to be wearing cake on their face!

But there were some heartfelt moments as well. Melissa and Nick during their first dance . . .

. . . and the look of her dad during the dance.

After the father-daughter dance, Melissa snuck away to prepare for the surprise of the night. Yes, her and a bridesmaid performed a belly dance routine!

And that was pretty much just the start of the party. There were plenty of characters livin’ it up and hammin’ it up for the party pics . . .here is one of my favorites!

We finished off a fabulous day with a fabulous sunset. Thanks for checking out the photos.
