Kristi and Danny .:. Wedding

Last month I was fortunate enough to have a Colorado destination wedding outside of Steamboat Springs. Yippee, summer mountain weddings are here! This first shot is the road heading up to Midnight Ranch, which is about an hour NE of Steamboat. It is out there!

There isn’t too much that I don’t like about farm weddings. The scenery and textures always yield unlimited possibilities for creative and artistic shots. I guessing that these holes were pecked in the side of the house by some kind of woodpecker or something. I almost went crazy trying to get them to stay there, and then the shoes wouldn’t quite fit on the ledge, but I’m quite persistent when it comes to these things!

This is Danny. See him and his Best Man and brother Doug sitting proudly on horses. Danny rode into the wedding on horseback, which is pretty epic. So, the really funny part about this story, is that neither Danny nor Doug really likes horses all that much. I think it was Doug that got ejected from a horse a long time ago, but you’ll have to ask them the story.

This is Kristi. She’s so amazing and gorgeous that she can make two grown men get on horses that they don’t really like on her wedding day.

Prior to the ceremony, we had picture perfect weather to shoot all of the getting ready and groomsmen photos. I even commented on what a perfect day it was. Oops.

The ceremony was located on a small hill on the other side of the lake, with 360 degree mountain views. This made for the longest processional. Ever.

We had quite an amazingly wet spring in Colorado, where it pretty much rained every day. This day was not turning out to be any different. The ceremony was spiritual and beautiful, and with increasing gusty winds; powerful.

Fortunately, the advancing storms held of until the end of the ceremony. It was so close that we got hit before we could return to the reception tent!

I had some cool locations for the creative portraits all lined up in the forest near the property, but the weather quickly changed those plans. Fortunately, or schedules allowed us to coordinate a Sport The Dress session the next day! So stay tuned for Part 2 of Kristi and Danny’s wedding photos . . . I won’t tell you what we did, but I’ll give you a hint and that is that the weather was simply gorgeous.

The reception tent was filled with an eclectic mix of art, tradition, and cultures which filled the space with love and light. I’m so blessed that I was there. See you next time.
