Wakesurfing Action Sports Senior Pictures

I’m back on the attack with my most action packed Senior Portrait session of the year! I was super stoked when I got a call from Brandon saying that he wanted to take shots wakeboarding on Boulder Reservoir. We’ll get to some shots of and wakeboarding, but first we need to take care of some shots where he’s got his shirt on :-)

The Res turned out to be a pretty cool location for portraits. There were some buildings and old boats to shoot around which provided nice colors and textures.

When Brandon first called me about doing the shoot, he only mentioned photographing wakeboarding. While that would be pretty cool, I knew that composing the shots would be limited due to the distance off the back of the boat. Then when he pulled out the wakesurfboard, I was like, “Hold the phone! I can STROBE this!” And the strobe is really the key to this whole shot. I was able to bring out the dramatic sky and provide great lighting on Brandon as well. Extra bonus points for the Flatirons in the background, I say! ;-)   This shot below will be the one in the yearbook but with a vertical crop. Too cool for school!

After the wake surfing session, we also took some wake boarding shots for good measure. Witness the “Flatiron Grab”!

As it turns out, Brandon is studying photography at Boulder High School. So when it was my turn to take a run, I handed him my camera and told him to shoot away. This was not my first time wakeboarding, but it was my first time since I’ve learned to snowboard. It was way easier this time! As a super bonus, I was out on the water when the money sunset happened. Brandon killed it with the camera and got this great shot! Thanks man!
