ABOUT ME

One of the things I love most about weddings is the range of emotions that emerge when families and friends unite. Through the lens, I see it all: from the tenderest expressions of love, to the most raucous dance parties.  There are few things in life that bring me as much joy as when I receive a heartfelt “thank you” for capturing one of these fleeting moments and transforming it in to an image that can be cherished forever. It is truly my honor to be able to offer you that gift.

Before I was a photographer, I was a rocket scientist. No really, I actually worked as an engineer for NASA. I enjoyed the technical side of things, but felt frustrated in my need for artistic expression. Luckily, life eventually guided me to photography. I feel blessed to have found something that enables me to combine technical equipment, computer skills, and creative expression all at once.

Why does my unique background matter? Like sending something into space, there is only one chance to get wedding photos right. Important moments come and, if they’re missed by your photographer, they’re gone forever. I have stepped up to the responsibility of high stakes, all-or-nothing careers. I have shot hundreds of weddings. You can count on me to project manage your wedding photography to perfection. If unexpected bumps arise on your wedding day, you can rely on me to remain calm and focused under pressure. With my high-level technical and problem-solving skills, you can trust that I can MacGyver any situation with perfect lighting, composition, and timing. With me you can rest assured that you are getting the best of both the art and the science of photography.

I do differ from your average Enginerd in one important way… social skills! I truly enjoy getting to know all kinds of people and I thrive in social settings. This is, in part, what led me to 2 years of international travel. Photographing in 50 countries has enhanced my flexibility, patience, and mindfulness. Immersing myself in different cultures, where there was often a huge language barrier, has honed my powers of observation. With a broader, global perspective under my belt I find it easy to think, vision, and observe outside the box. To see things that others miss. To deliver wedding photos that are fresh, vibrant, and uniquely you, not the same tired old clichés.

Extended travel has also heightened my natural adaptability and persuasiveness. It is my job to continually evaluate what is needed and adapt myself accordingly to the flow of your event. There are invisible ninja moments, where I can slip in and sneak a photo without anyone noticing. I’m also an excellent cat-herder when necessary, corralling your family in to position for a group photo while keeping the laughter, smiles, and good times rolling!

Let’s face it. You don’t want to spend your wedding day being trailed by a weirdo with a fancy camera. I do my best to be humorous, highly personable and diplomatic. I believe in blending in and staying out of the way as much as possible. And no need to dread any awkward posing moments. I have my secret techniques to make you look and feel natural so you can relax… and have fun!

INTERNATIONAL MAN OF IMAGERY

Unlike your average engineer, I am also highly personable and thrive in social scenarios. Photographing in 50 countries has enhanced my flexibility, patience, and mindfulness. Mingling with different cultures has given me unique powers of observation. I want your wedding photos to be uniquely you, not defined by limited creativity and cliched wedding imagery.

Long travel has cultivated my natural adaptability. Sometimes I am an invisible ninja, and you will later see a photo and think, “I didn’t even know he was there!”. Other times I will use humor and tact to herd a bunch of cats into that big group family photo. Since you will be spending much of your day with your photographer, you want to make sure that it's someone you connect with. In general, I believe in blending in and staying out of the way as much as possible. And don’t worry about uncomfortable awkward posing, I will make things feel natural, and dare I say, even fun!

TRENDY ISN'T TIMELESS

We are lucky to have digital technology that allows me to take shots that weren’t even possible in the film days. Yet, just as the kitchen doesn’t make the chef, the camera doesn’t make the photographer. In addition to excellence on your wedding day, there is also a lot that can happen to your photos on the computer in post-processing.

I feel that it is important to steer clear of trendy photo processing that will soon go out of fashion. I strive to deliver brilliant images that stand out because of photography skills, not because of gimmicks. Vintage looking photos may look cute on Pinterest today, but these stylized looks become quickly dated. Instagram type filters can also be used to hide poor lighting, and may give your final images a look that is not consistent. Excellent lighting and color balancing is difficult business, and it is something that I pursue passionately. You can always take a true color image and turn it to black and white or add an Instagram filter, but you can’t turn a yellow sky back to blue.
